About this movie

"The Tale of One Pattern" invites the viewer to take another look at Gzhel painting as a living heritage capable of uniting people of different ages, professions and destinies. Through the prism of personal stories of masters, teachers and students of the Gzhel State University, the technique of creating the famous cobalt patterns and the sacred meaning of this art for those who touched it are revealed. The visual fabric of the film is woven from the museum halls of Gzhel, the workshops of the university. The author's voice is heard behind the scenes, telling about the origins of the craft, about the path from zemstvo schools to the modern Russian University. On the screen, the viewer sees the process of the birth of the pattern, the fine work of the brush, moments of inspiration. The stories of the rector, teachers, students come together to form a single mosaic: memories of childhood, thoughts about the future of folk crafts, the history of the country, told through portraits of sovereigns and scientists.
