Schlaf Ishida (33) travels across Japan with just a backpack, holding up a sign on a street corner at dusk that reads, "May I stay tonight?" He enjoys these once-in-a-lifetime encounters - being treated to dinner, hearing people's stories from the past, and savoring the unexpected connections. He has stayed in around 800 homes. "I want to keep staying in other people's homes until the day I die," he says. But now, five years after he began, a certain change has started to take shape.
