Archaeologists George Leader and Dominic Stratford embark on a world-first expedition: crossing the Sand Sea of the Namib Desert on foot in search of undiscovered archaeological sites. The Sand Sea, an ancient, hyper-arid landscape of vast dunes, is one of the most inhospitable places on Earth. Few lifeforms survive here, and much about the region remains a mystery to science. Yet, evidence suggests that people may have once lived along its edges, and perhaps even deep within it. How did they survive in such extreme conditions? To answer this question, Dom and George, both experts on the Namib Desert, set out to do what no one has done before: cross the Sand Sea on foot, studying the terrain and documenting potential archaeological sites that may shed light on this enigma. But in a place where things can go wrong quickly, the risks are immense. After more than a year of preparation, the question remains: will they complete the crossing - and will they find anything that makes the perilous journey worthwhile?
