In a small mountain village two men, in their dialect, talk about the crime that another man, a stranger, has committed nearby: the man's name is Fabrizio and he and Alessia have recently separated. He continues to live in the small town where he had moved once he met Alessia, while she has fled far away, to the mountains, where she runs an alpine refuge. Their little daughter Erica spends her time dividing her time between the two parents. The two, like many separated couples, are trying to build a family balance after their divorce. Fabrizio after the separation is trying to build a relationship with the little girl, Alessia has broken with her past and found peace and quiet around her, a completely different life from the one she had before. Whenever Fabrizio has his daughter on his weekend, he accompanies her to her mother, leaving her at the cable car that takes her to the refuge that Alessia runs. A routine that has been going on every fortnight and for months and that each time generates in him a sense of prostration for something that he cannot govern, that no longer depends on him. The separation has imposed hard rules that he had not thought about. One day, contrary to his agreements with Alessia, he decided to go up to the refuge to take Erica, spend the night there and try to talk to his ex-wife. Over time, Alessia has accepted the distance, while, inside, Fabrizio has matured a sense of repressed anger and impotence, coming to think that the only right thing to do to return to the life he had before is to take Alessia and Erica back in whatever way he can. Thus, in the light of the day that is dawning, a heinous crime about life and love takes place, one of those crimes that, just as in the comment of the two men in the mountain village at the beginning of our story, are incessantly repeated, so much so that we have become accustomed to them.
