"What'chu Mixed With?" is a coming-of-age short film that follows 14-year-old Alexis, a quiet and introspective biracial girl growing up in early 2000s San Francisco. After her Black father leaves the city for Los Angeles, Alexis is left with her white mother, forced to navigate the awkwardness of adolescence in a predominantly white school where she often feels invisible and out of place. Struggling with identity, self-worth, and the question of where she belongs, Alexis hides under a hoodie and retreats into herself-until she meets Precious. Precious is everything Alexis is not: bold, confident, and unapologetically herself. A popular teen from the Hunters Point neighborhood, Precious opens Alexis's eyes to a vibrant world of Black culture, self-expression, and female friendship. Through hair straightening sessions, piercing adventures, and long bus rides through the city, the two girls form an unlikely bond that challenges Alexis to rethink who she is-and who she wants to be. But with this awakening also comes risk. As Alexis is pulled deeper into Precious's world, she must confront the dangers of growing up too fast, the complexities of race and class, and the subtle ways childhood can slip away without warning.
