About this movie

Set in the eerie stillness of the Covid-19 pandemic, MAPPO, follows an eccentric woman whose world unravels after her beloved leaves her in isolation. When a grief stricken neighbor entrusts her with his family's heirloom rifle, while he attends his father's funeral, her already fragile sense of self begins to crumble. Despite the attempts of her remote psychiatrist to pull her back from the edge; loneliness, medication, and mounting despair pull her into the grip of something otherworldly- an ancient Greek spirit appears in her subconscious. This spirit convinces her that the sickness of humanity mirrors the sickness of the earth itself. Guided by this spectral presence, she is drawn into a chilling act that she can't undo. The film's title is derived from Nichiren Buddhism. "Mappo" describes the "end of days for the human race" as it is the age of the degeneration of the Buddha's law, which some believe to be the current age in human history.
