It's 1934 and the Great Depression in Australia has created a fragile community where rations are distributed in even but small quantities to the families and those who barely make a living out of the few hours of work they can to find. Ruby and Molly, orphaned by the death of their mother and the unknown whereabouts of their father, are homeless, poor and have very little food to survive. Finding refuge in remote bush land, they are constantly judged and ridiculed by their community, until the town is divided on whether to despise or love Ruby after a blind boy goes missing. Through trauma from the death of her mother, Ruby experiences visions that come true. Whilst one group tries to hunt her down for stealing, another group is trying to help her, eventually leading to the location of the missing boy and an event that changes the attitude of the entire community. Through kindness, Ruby finds a home and people who care.
